It’s Not Rocket Science but It Feels Like It – Planning and Scheduling Best Practices

Many of the maintenance planning and scheduling best practices in use today date back to the 1980s and 90s. Sure, some practices have evolved from a continuous improvement perspective. That said, the actual implementation of truly effective maintenance planning and scheduling practices remains a mixed bag in organizations today, some thirty plus years later. While some groups do it well, the majority have much room for improvement.  People change roles. Management support waivers. Departmental silos become entrenched and partnerships fall to the wayside. In other cases, we simply make the implementation of maintenance planning and scheduling too hard.

While the concepts of planning and scheduling are not rocket science, it seems the practice of implementation is. In this four-hour workshop, join Jeff Shiver CMRP, ARP as he shares actionable insights and experiences to take your planning and scheduling implementation from the current state to the next level and beyond. Jeff will layout a step-by-step approach that highlights methods to effectively implement maintenance planning and scheduling that has been leveraged globally. Jeff will share case studies and exercises that reinforce the implementation concepts in the workshop.

You will learn:

  1. Painting the vision of the future begins with understanding the current state
  2. Insights on the people side
  3. To leverage the two key components that most overlook
  4. To make your job easier – Systematic ways of working
  5. To build the No. 1 tool for reliability and make their job easier
  6. Approaches on breaking down the silos – gaining support for what you do
  7. Where the rubber meets the road – Scheduling insights
  8. Leveraging loops to refine and improve your work
  9. To demonstrate added value

Implementing RCM Concepts for Guaranteed Reliability Improvement

From conducting informal surveys from many conference sessions, totaling hundreds of attendees, the vast majority of are dissatisfied with their preventive and predictive maintenance program. Most lack a defined process on how to develop their maintenance strategies to help ensure asset reliability, other than copying from the OEM manual. Realize for most assets, the OEM manual provides a starting point but often lacks the detail necessary from a precision maintenance perspective. In some cases, the PM’s are developed as management reactions to past failures regardless of the failure mode. More maintenance does not mean better maintenance. From our experience as RCM2 & 3 practitioners; it’s no surprise as we find that upwards of 40-60% of PM tasks add no value.  These tasks don’t address the likely failure modes for the asset.

If you have grown weary of the status quo, the constant failures, and resulting business pressures, then join RCM2/ RCM3 Practitioner Jeff Shiver CMRP as he shares the concepts of reliability centered maintenance from a practical hands-on perspective.

By attending, you will gain knowledge on:

  1. The primary components required to develop the maintenance strategy
  2. A short introduction to RCM2 & RCM3
  3. Leveraging the RCM concepts for that strategy
  4. Why your approach matters
  5. Where to start with your implementation
